As part of the Rencontres Contemporaines season, François Salès presents an evening in two parts. He will perform his solo show Wagner, Wotan, François et les autres, a richly documented historical fresco—lively, witty, and engaging. Note: this puppet-theatre-style performance is by no means reserved for Wagner enthusiasts… The evening will also feature a solo oboe piece, Spenta Mainyu, by composer Michel Petrossian, which François Salès will have premiered a few days earlier.
Wagner, Wotan, François et les autres
Armed with his sampler, English horn, and eloquence, François Salès playfully, yet poetically and politically, draws us into Wagner’s musical universe. He recounts the legend of the Ring, with its many ramifications—very close to that of The Lord of the Rings—while weaving in memories from his childhood at the Marseille Opera.
From family anecdotes to the turmoil of the world, from the disenchantment of the gods to the Big Bang, the entire universe finds its place in this “chamber opera.”
